Belgium booked a World Cup quarter-final date with Argentina as they saw off the USA 2-1 after extra time.

Although Marc Wilmot’s side dominated much of the game, they had to wait until the second minute of the first additional period to make the breakthrough as Kevin De Bruyne struck with their 31st shot of the game. Shortly afterwards, Romelu Lukaku capped a fine break with an emphatic finish.

Julian Green shot past Thibaut Courtois shortly after the change of ends, but despite a rousing conclusion no leveller would arrive.
