Imo Speaker condemns attempt to bomb church

The Imo Speaker, Assemblyman Benjamin Uwajumogu, on Wednesday condemned the attempt to bomb a church in Owerri on Sunday, describing it as war against the peace loving citizens of the state.
Uwajumogu made the condemnation in a press statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Emeka Ahaneku.
The statement said he also called for collaboration and synergy among relevant security agencies in the state and members of the public, to guard against infiltration by terrorist elements.
He, however, commended  Gov. Rochas Okorocha for taking swift action by convening an expanded security council meeting and adopting the operation ‘Know Your Neighbour’ policy in a bid to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
Uwajumogu also commended the church security staff for contacting the relevant authorities promptly.
He also lauded the immediate response of the Anti-bomb Unit of the Nigeria Police Force and successfully deactivating the already planted Improvised Explosive Devices.
He further thanked God for sparing the lives of Imo people and their property.
While calling for support for the operation ‘ Know Your Neighbour’ policy of the governor, the speaker further urged Imo residents to remain security conscious and to report any strange movements, objects or suspicious persons in their locality.
He also advised politicians in the state not to capitalise on the incident to score “cheap political points” but rather see security as the collective responsibility of every citizen.
